Meet Joey LaNeve
Campus Recreation alumni take their experiences across the world and into a variety of fields. We talked with Joey LaNeve, who got his start as a lifeguard at the Leach and Rez and went on to become Aquatics Student Director for Health and Safety courses at FSU Campus Recreation. Today, Noah is an Aquatics and Safety Education Coordinator for Arizona State University Sun Devil Fitness and Wellness.

What is a day in the life at your current position?
In my current position I oversee 50+ lifeguards and instructors at the Sun Devil Fitness Complex on ASU’s main Tempe campus. When I am not overseeing day to day operations of the pool I am planning programs to help students on their journey to holistic wellness and providing my student staff with professional and personal development opportunities.
How did you get your start in Campus Recreation?
I started my Campus Rec journey as a lifeguard at the Leach and Rez. From there I became the Aquatics Student Director for Health and Safety courses.
How did your time at Campus Rec contribute to your life and/or career goals?
My time with Campus Rec instilled a passion in me for wellness and student development and helped me decide to pursue a career in Campus Rec and higher education full time.
What is your favorite memory from your time at Campus Rec?
Making lifelong friendships at work and finding a second family within our lifeguard staff.
What advice would you give yourself in college?
Don’t be afraid to be yourself and try new things.
