School is back in session, yet it still feels as if we are far apart. Whether you’re in a residence hall on campus or off campus, know you’re not alone if you’re experiencing loneliness.
After a long couple months of quarantine, it felt as if starting school again would be the perfect (and safe) escape. Now that mostly everyone has become accustomed with their coursework for the semester, it feels like the social aspect of college is out of reach.
No matter your standing, senior or freshman, this year is different for everyone. We have to work a little harder and get more creative when looking for things to do and ways to connect.
Campus Recreation’s mission is to promote wellness and community. While these things may feel like a challenge recently, Campus Rec have been trying different ways to support our community in the safest way possible.
Our outdoor Group Fitness classes offer an opportunity to get your workout in while getting fresh air. Group Fitness classes are also a great way to meet other FSU students and integrate yourself within the community. A simple, “Hey! Have you taken this class before?” is a great conversation starter. You can introduce yourself and even plan to go together the next time!
Intramural Sports is also hosting fun, pick-up games on Landis Green on Tuesdays and Thursdays through a program called “Recess.” No need to sign up beforehand, just head over to Landis with a mask, comfortable clothes and you’re ready to go!
Outdoor Pursuits is hosting $10 trips this semester which offer a great way to explore Tallahassee and experience the outdoors first-hand. OP is also launching Campus Adventures, which are first come, first served trips offering a unique campus experience. Both are also a great way to bond with others, in a safe manner.
It may seem daunting at first, but it’s comforting to know that most of us are on the same page: everyone is looking for things to do and people to spend time with. Thankfully, we have these opportunities where we can take a small initiative that can go a long way! Stay open minded and be easy on yourself, there’s always something to be grateful for
