How did you get your start in Campus Recreation?
I started working for FSU Campus Recreation during the end of my Sophomore year as a Fitness Instructor.
How did your time at Campus Rec contribute to your life and/or career goals?
My time working for Campus Recreation had a huge impact in my life and career. I think it started with the rigorous week of training we had to complete to become a Fitness Instructor set the tone for my career. Nothing but the best was expected and we had to meet specific standards within the industry to succeed. I later took on the role of a Spinning Instructor and grew more confident in my role as a fitness professional. The team encouraged me to attend NIRSA to continue my education and professional development in graduate school and I attended Indiana University and was the Graduate Assistant for Fitness. After my tenure at IU I came back to FSU to work under Lynn again as the Assistant Director of Fitness. Working at FSU Campus Rec laid the foundation for my career and I continue to use the skills and tools I learned today.
My favorite memories include anything fun and crazy with Lynn! Events that come to mind are the Battle of the Fitness Stars and Fitness week. If I remember correctly we learned the dance to the song “Thriller” and Lynn convinced me to dance in the Leach Lobby dressed up as a Zombie in front of everyone.
