Hometown: Houston, Texas
Job: Assistant Director for Fitness Facility Operations
Working at FSU since: July 2019
What was your first job?
I worked at a skating rink at the historic FunPlex in Houston. If you have ever seen the movie Roll Bounce or ATL then you have an idea of how I used to skate back in the day.
How did you get your start in Campus Recreation?
Started out officiating flag football and basketball at UTSA. Once I attended my first NIRSA conference in 2012 I was already drinking the “NIRSA Kool-Aid”. I went on to work in the marketing program area at UTSA. Once I got to grad school I was able to work in every program area at PVAMU and rest is history.
What do you do for fun?
I enjoy spending time with friends, playing/coaching rugby, or just relaxing having some time to myself.
Who do you admire and why?
LeBron James, I think that just about everything he does off of the basketball court is phenomenal, especially employing his people and empowering them to be able to make a way and life for their families and the people that come behind them. Takes paying it forward to an entirely different level.
What’s your favorite place to grab a meal in Tallahassee?
I am still extremely new here having only been here a few days and I haven’t been able to really get around and explore to find the real gems. Catch me in a couple months and I am sure I will have some good ones on here. So far I like Bada Bean for breakfast.
What do you do?
I am the Assistant Director for Fitness Facility Operations. I work with our Coordinator of Member Services and Coordinator of Facility Operations to oversee all day to day operations at the Leach Center and Fitness and Movement Clinic.
What does an average day look like?
I am still new to the position, so as of now its consisted of lots of meetings and learning. I typically arrive around 8 sort through my inbox and then it takes off from there. I make my way to the front desk to interact with our student employees which keeps my energy up. Rinse, wash, repeat.
What’s your favorite part of your job?
The people, I work with a great group of people both students and professional. They make work not seem like work everyday!
What advice would you give yourself in college?
Take your time, it will all come together. It’s a marathon not a sprint.
