What was your first job?
Lifeguard
How did you get your start in Campus Recreation?
I began working as a Lifeguard during my Freshman year of undergrad and continued working my way up to Student Manager toward the end of my time at the University of Arkansas. Along the way, I had the chance to interact with quite a few of the professional staff in that department who helped introduce me to Collegiate Recreation.
What do you do for fun?
I enjoy lifting weights, kayaking, and traveling. I like to see the sights the world has to offer and spend time with my friends. On the side, I enjoy some photography and catching up on my shows.
Who do you admire and why?
My first mentor in the realm of Collegiate Recreation and Director at the University of Arkansas Campus Recreation Jeremy Battjes. He shows a genuine passion for his career and cares a lot about his colleagues and friends.
What’s your favorite place to grab a meal in Tallahassee?
Midtown Caboose for a good burger. If I am feeling brunch or breakfast food then Table 23, that chicken and waffles…
What do you do?
I am the Assistant Director of the FSU Rez and Special Events. I work with and oversee our Aquatics Coordinator, 3 Student Directors, and 20 Guest Service staff to manage dozens of daily special events and conferences, large scale Rez Day events, and the general management of the FSU Rez operations.
What does an average day look like?
The first thing I do in the morning is sort through my inbox and check my daily calendar. I then plan for any upcoming meetings and events and begin working on larger projects. Normally you can find me working on projects to further improve the operations of the FSU Reservation and creating great partnerships with departments on campus for our larger-scale Rez Day events.
What’s your favorite part of your job?
The people I work with every day. They bring an energy and passion that is unmatched by many departments and really care about their people.
What advice would you give yourself in college?
Enjoy every moment. It goes by so much faster than you ever think it will!
