Meet Kari Scott.

Working at FSU since: July 2017
What was your first job?
I worked in maintenance at my former elementary school during the summers I was home from college.
How did you get your start in Campus Recreation?
As an undergraduate student, I worked at the rec center as a Fitness Attendant and then a Facility Supervisor. I knew I wanted to work in the fitness/wellness world and loved the operations/administrative side of the house. After undergrad, I worked as a Graduate Assistant at IU. This experience solidified my desire to work in Campus Recreation as a professional.
What do you do for fun?
I love being social and being around people. I travel a decent amount for mini-vacations to get out and see family/friends that live far away. When I am not with people or traveling, I do enjoy “me-time”, too, where I can catch up on my shows.
Who do you admire and why?
I admire my parents so much. They worked so hard to get to where they are and I have never met two people so happy and in love with life and each other. I aspire to be as happy and successful as they are when I am their age.
What’s your favorite place to grab a meal in Tallahassee?
Here we go…
Brunch – Canopy Road Cafe
Lunch – Spear It (best Mac & Cheese bites ever!)
Dinner – Wells Brothers (Monks) or Midtown Caboose (food + atmosphere = amazing)
What do you do?
I am the Member Services Coordinator. I oversee all membership sales, locker services, Leach Center facility rentals/reservations, guest passes, facility access, customer service, and more. I also supervise a student staff of 100+ that are trained to run front desk operations and assist patrons.
What does an average day look like?
Typically, I get to work and start going through my inbox. I answer patron questions about memberships, assist with membership issues, plan/coordinate facility events, etc. I often have a few meetings throughout the day with staff I am collaborating with both intra- and inter- departmentally. Planning upcoming events, working with special groups for access, and coordinating trainings or outreach initiatives are also pretty frequent tasks of mine.
What’s your favorite part of your job?
My favorite part of my job is working with the students. I have the absolute pleasure of working alongside students that care and work so hard to provide amazing services. They have initiative, creativity, and drive, which makes my job so much easier and positive! I love seeing them succeed and be proud of their jobs well done.
What advice would you give yourself in college?
Soak it in! It goes by so fast.
