Meet Kate Blosser.
Name: Kate Blosser
Undergraduate Degree: Interdisciplinary Studies, University of Central Florida ’14 (Go Knights!)
Graduate Degree: Public Interest Media Communication, Florida State University ’18
Hometown: Palm City, Florida
Job: Assistant Director, Marketing & Special Events
Working at FSU since: 2014
What was your first job?
Probably babysitting. My first “real” job was being a cashier at Panera Bread. I started working there when I was sixteen and worked there all through high school and during breaks when I was in college.
What do you do for fun?
I love working with my hands, whether that’s quilting or doing projects around the house. My husband and I recently started refinishing our kitchen cabinets and I check Craigslist religiously for my next furniture project.
Who do you admire and why?
Walt Disney. His commitment to creating an exceptional product and not wavering on how that product is delivered.
What’s your favorite place to grab a meal in Tallahassee?
This is tough!
Breakfast: Uptown Cafe. Lunch: Tan’s Asian Cafe. Dinner: Cypress.
What do you do?
I oversee marketing and special events for Campus Rec. We have a team of student designers, copywriters, photographers and videographers and it’s my job to teach and mentor them. We create all the promotional materials for our programs, plan and execute events, and dabble in all kinds of fun stuff. It’s a dream job, really.
What does an average day look like?
I get in around 8, work through my inbox, and then the day can really go in any direction. I work often with our campus partners on how we can collaborate on messaging and events. Spend some time in the Marketing Lab, which is always full of energy. Then I try and work on longer term design projects every day. Lather, rinse, repeat!
What’s your favorite part of your job?
My students! Seeing the growth from their first semester to when they graduate is incredible. Watching where our alums land in their professional careers and knowing that Campus Rec played a part in that is really special.
What advice would you give yourself in college?
Slooooooow down. You’re gonna get where you’re going.
