About the Club

The rowing team at FSU was founded in 1991 and is a competitive team. We have a novice and varsity team for both men’s and women’s and compete throughout the Southeast. The purpose of our team is to provided a safe, fun and competitive environment in which the students of Florida State University can learn and enjoy the sport of rowing.

Our team focuses on the “sweep” style of rowing which involves only one oar. Most of our boats are 4+ or 8+ which means 4 rowers and a coxswain or 8 rowers and a coxswain. Coxswains are typically tiny but mighty people in charge of steering and giving instructions to their boat.

We are a competitive team, placing our Novice Women’s 4+ 3rd at Nationals 2018, and our Varsity Women’s 4+ 4th at Nationals 2022. We race 5k in the fall and 2k in the spring. We are looking for athletic individuals or those tough enough to make up the difference.
