Class Descriptions

Barre

Barre is a unique total body workout utilizing the Ballet Barre, light dumbbells, and ballet-inspired movements to perform small isometric exercises that strengthen and lengthen your muscles. High reps and various barre/position combinations will have you burning at the barre! You’ll enjoy a deep stretch session at the end of each class. Please bring a mat or full size towel as well as a water bottle.

Cardio Burn and Firm

This exciting class spends half the time on the step for a cardio sweat session and the other half toning and firming with weights, cables, mats, balls, and your body weight. You’ll be working in intervals on your cardiovascular endurance and improving strength in all major muscle groups. Please bring a mat or full size towel as well as a water bottle.

Cardio Dance

Ditch the workout! Join the party! Need cardio? Love to dance? Get ready to shake and sweat. No rhythm required! Add fun to your fitness by fusing the latest hip hop, dance and Latin music with easy-to-follow and easy-to-spice-up choreography. Please bring a water bottle.

F45

F45 Training combines elements of high- intensity interval training (HIIT), circuit training, and functional training. The variation of our workout programming keeps our members challenged, eager to grow and ready to have fun.

Hard Core 30

Like to do cardio on your own? Just looking for a quick core workout? This is the perfect complement to end or start your workout or try on a busy day! This 30-minute core workout focuses on the muscles from the shoulders to the hips to improve overall strength and endurance. Please bring a mat or full size towel as well as a water bottle.

Kickbox and Build

Cardio kickboxing with intervals of strength training. Feel powerful and strong by combining the two elements to get an intense workout.  Please bring a water bottle.

Kickboxing

Build stamina and improve coordination during this high-energy workout involving a series of choreographed punches and kicks! This class combines martial arts techniques with fast-paced cardio moves for a total body workout. Please bring a water bottle.

Mat Pilates

Pilates engages the mind and conditions the body with a blend of strength and flexibility. With a focus on muscle balance, Pilates helps to improve posture and range of motion by strengthening weaker muscle groups and stretching the over-worked muscles. Detailed instruction on alignment will be given in this class, and supplementary equipment may be introduced. Please bring a mat or full sized towel as well as a water bottle.

Spin 45

This 45-minute spin class takes participants for a ride as the instructor leads them up hills and through straight aways as they push themselves past their boundaries and limits. Individuals set their own intensity while enjoying the energy of a group workout. Water bottles and towels are required for Spinning.

Step 45

Step is a combo-based cardio workout designed to get your heart rate up. Starting with basic sequences and progressively adding choreography, this class is physically and mentally engaging and open to all levels. Expect to leave feeling energized and accomplished after mastering the routine “from the top” to the end of the class. Please bring a water bottle.

SUP Fit

This workout takes place in the Leach Center Pool. Our stand up paddleboards are held in place while you practice your on-the-water moves. Get ready to SUP Fit with these high-intensity workouts that will strengthen and lengthen muscles. Please bring a water bottle and a towel.

Total Body Express

Whether you’re looking for an introduction to weights or to spice up your current routine, Total Body Express is for you! The 45-minute workout concentrates on all major muscle groups using body weight, steps, body bars, cables, and light dumbbells to provide varying resistance. We promise a total body workout! Please bring a mat or full sized towel as well as a water bottle.

Total Body Sculpt

Whether you’re looking for an introduction to weights or to spice up your current routine, Total Body Sculpt is for you! This hour-long workout concentrates on all major muscle groups using body weight, steps, body bars, cables, and light dumbbells to provide varying resistance. We promise a total body workout! Please bring a mat or full sized towel as well as a water bottle.

Vinyasa Yoga

Yoga means union of BODY-MIND-SPIRIT. It is an ancient system of asana (yoga postures) which was developed to create the right mind, breathing, postures, movement, and relaxation. Vinyasa Yoga is an active style of yoga where participants learn breathing techniques that guide them through a variety of postures. The goal is to align the breath with the mind and body. Benefits of Vinyasa yoga are its ability to increase range of motion, balance, cardiovascular health, build strength, decrease stress, and connect with the breath. For all fitness levels! Please bring a mat or full sized towel as well as a water bottle.

Power Yoga

Yoga means union of BODY-MIND-SPIRIT. It is an ancient system of asana (yoga postures) which was developed to create the right mind, breathing, postures, movement, and relaxation. Power Yoga provides an invigorating full-body flow where you’ll explore different postures and fundamental principles of Vinyasa Yoga. The class flows to an inspiring playlist to motivate you throughout your practice and allow you to connect with your breath and body. We will target every muscle at a level comfortable for beginners and longtime yogis alike. Please bring a mat or full sized towel as well as a water bottle.

GFIT: Group Fitness Instructor Training

Interested in teaching group fitness at FSU? Register for GFIT this Spring through FSU Campus Rec! Over the course of 8 weeks, participants will learn the skills needed to teach a variety of different fitness classes including step, kickboxing and strength. After completing GFIT, you’ll be ready to audition for a position on our team. Sessions provide theoretical and practical training in preparation for taking a national certification exam.

Spring 2022 Group Fitness Instructor Training
Registration begins on January 10, 2022 and concludes on January 21, 2022.  The course runs from January 31, 2022 through April 1, 2022 with classes happening on Tuesdays (3:30-4:45PM in Wet Classroom) and Fridays (12-2PM in Room 2).  Attendance for both class days is required to be successful in the course and hiring.  Group fitness auditions will happen the week of April 4, 2022.

SPINNING® INSTRUCTOR CERTIFICATION HOSTED BY FSU CAMPUS RECREATION

This spring, FSU Campus Recreation is hosting a Spinning Instructor Certification course! Get certified to teach fun and engaging spin workouts for just $355. 

The class will be held on Saturday, February 19th from 8AM-5PM.

FITNESS 2 YOU

Florida State University’s Campus Recreation is pleased to offer Fitness 2 You services to the campus community. We know it can sometimes be difficult to make time to workout at the Leach or FMC, so let us bring our group fitness instructors to you! We will come to your on-campus location and provide your group/team a fun-filled fitness class. Please fill out the Fitness 2 You form if you have interest in FSU Campus Rec bringing ‘Fitness 2 You’! Requests must be submitted at least 2 weeks in advance.

Ever wanted a private fitness class at the Leach or FMC to workout with just your closest friends? Then let us provide ‘Fitness 4 You’. Bring your friends to the Leach for a Spin 45 class in our Spinning Studio, or an F45 Live class at the FMC, and we will provide your group/team a fun-filled fitness class. Please fill out the Fitness 4 You form if you’re interested in FSU Campus Rec providing ‘Fitness 4 You’! Requests must be submitted at least 2 weeks in advance.
