Updates for ongoing special facility maintenance and renovation projects across Campus Recreation’s seven facilities.

Campus Recreation is undertaking a multi-million dollar project to upgrade the Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) units throughout the Leach Center. Many of the units to be replaced are original to the building, installed in the early 1990s. The project will modernize the HVAC system reducing ongoing maintenance costs and improving overall efficiency. The project will take place in phases over a 12 to 15 month period.

Phase 3 of the project began on June 19, 2026, focusing on racquetball courts 1 and 2 on the main level with additional work simultaneously in portions of the men’s general locker room. The Leach Center will be open throughout this phase with patrons redirected around closed work areas.

Phase 3 – July & August 2026

The Leach Center reopened to patrons on June 19, 2026. Phase 3 of the Heating, Ventilation, & Air Conditioning (HVAC) project will focus on the two racquetball courts (1 & 2) adjacent to the Leach Center atrium. Work from Phase 2 will be completed in the men’s general locker room (partial closure) and in other mechanical rooms in the facility.

Phase 2 – May & June 2026

During the Summer A term when the Leach Center was closed, the HVAC project focused on the locker room and restrooms on the main level with additional work simultaneously in workout spaces. The closure provided the ability to accelerate the project and reduce disruptions during our busier months of the year.

Phase 1 – January & February 2026

The first phase of the project included the HVAC units along the indoor track. Units and related duct work were repaired or replaced. This phase finished ahead of schedule with the track area reopening in early February.

Concurrently with the HVAC project, Campus Recreation utilized the Summer A Leach shutdown to repair and resurface our hardwood basketball floors. During this project, the court floor was sanded down to bare wood, repainted with new graphics, and refinished.

The court project was completed in June and all courts reopened to patrons on June 19, 2026, at the start of the Summer B term.
