Updates for ongoing special facility maintenance and renovation projects across Campus Recreation’s seven facilities.
Leach Recreation Center HVAC Renovation
Campus Recreation is undertaking a multi-million dollar project to upgrade the Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) units throughout the Leach Center. Many of the units to be replaced are original to the building, installed in the early 1990s. The project will modernize the HVAC system reducing ongoing maintenance costs and improving overall efficiency. The project will take place in phases over a 12 to 15 month period.
Phase 1 of the project included the HVAC units along the indoor track, causing the indoor track to be closed to patrons beginning December 15, 2025. This phase is now complete and the track reopened on February 6, 2026. Phase 2 of the project will begin on May 2, 2026, focusing on the locker room and restrooms on the main level with additional work simultaneously in workout spaces. This phase will cause the Leach Center to close through June 19, 2026 (Summer A).
April 6, 2026 Update
As the Leach Center renovation project enters a more extensive phase, Campus Recreation is planning to close the Leach Center for the Summer A session (from Spring Graduation until the start of Summer B session – May 2 to June 19). During these seven weeks, the Heating, Ventilation, & Air Conditioning (HVAC) project will focus on the locker room and restrooms on the main level with additional work simultaneously in workout spaces. The closure is expected to accelerate the project and reduce disruptions during our busier months of the year.
Campus Recreation will operate its smaller Fitness & Movement Clinic (FMC) in the Coburn Health & Wellness Center with extended hours throughout Summer A. Please note that guest pass hours have been extended to all operational hours during the summer semester. On-campus outdoor sports spaces will continue to be available throughout the term. The Lakefront Park will operate with its normal summer schedule of hours.

Additionally, current Campus Recreation membership holders (faculty, staff, alumni, and affiliates only) can utilize Morcom Aquatics Center for no additional cost. Morcom Aquatics Center is open during the summer on Mondays through Fridays from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., and again from 5-7 p.m; as well as Saturdays from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
Concurrently with the HVAC project, Campus Recreation will utilize the Summer A Leach shutdown to repair and resurface our hardwood basketball floors. This project will require the floor to be sanded down to bare wood, repainted and refinished. This project is estimated to take 45 to 60 days. Outdoor basketball will be available at the Westside Courts during this time.
We are hopeful that by accelerating these projects during Summer A while the facility is closed, we will be able to better limit interruptions and inconveniences to patrons later this year.
Thank you for your patience and understanding as we continue to modernize the Dr. Bobby E. Leach Student Recreation Center.
Summer A Operations Frequently Asked Questions

Summer A is by far the lowest utilized time for Leach Center. In the past few years, the facility has averaged approximately 30% of attendance that is normally seen on comparable fall or spring semester days. This is why this time of year was chosen for these projects.
From Spring Graduation until the start of Summer B session – May 2 to June 19, 2026.
We do not anticipate a delay in reopening the Leach Center on Saturday, June 20 with regular summer hours. However, some areas of the facility may remain closed due to ongoing work. Updates on the project and any inaccessible spaces will be posted on the Campus Rec web site.
The HVAC Modernization Project at the Leach Center will continue in various spaces within the facility for the next year. Work that requires a significant portion of the facility to be closed is currently scheduled for other upcoming intersession breaks (August, December). However, we anticipate portions of the facility to be inaccessible throughout the next year on a short term basis as the project shifts to more focused areas in the building. Similar to the work on the indoor track earlier this spring, some areas may be offline for numerous weeks. Updates will be provided as the schedule is determined.
All other Campus Recreation facilities – Fitness & Movement Clinic, The FSU Lakefront Park, and outdoor sports facilities will be open.
Morcom Aquatics Center is open during the summer for swimmers from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. and 5-7 p.m. during the week. Students can access for $2 and non-students can access for $4. Campus Recreation non-student members can access for no additional fees.
