The Aquatics Department offers students, faculty and staff, and the community the opportunity to enroll in certification classes. The classes are held at the Leach Center and are taught by certified American Red Cross instructors.

Course Offerings

CPR for the Professional Rescuer

Participants in this course may represent a broad range of backgrounds and differ in levels of education and experience. Participants may include members of an emergency response team, such as lifeguards, public safety personnel, medical personnel, and other employees with a duty to respond.

The CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers course includes professional-level training to care for adults, children, and infants suffering from breathing, cardiac emergencies.

This course is offered as blended learning which combines online learning with in-person skill sessions conducted by a Red Cross-certified instructor.

Adult & Pediatric CPR, First Aid, and AED

The intended audience for the courses in this program includes lay responders in the workplace and community. This certification level is the most basic form of care and is not typically used in a medical (hospital) setting. The primary purpose of the American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED program is to help participants recognize and respond appropriately to cardiac, breathing and first aid emergencies. The courses in this program teach participants the knowledge and skills needed to give immediate care to an injured or ill person and to decide whether advanced medical care is needed.

This program includes First Aid; CPR (Adult, Child, Infant); AED (Adult, Child, Infant).

Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers

The purpose of the American Red Cross Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers course is to ensure that individuals with a duty to respond (public safety professionals and healthcare providers) have the requisite knowledge and skills to respond to patients who are experiencing respiratory and cardiac arrest and airway obstruction. The emphasis is on providing high-quality care integrating psychomotor skills with the skills of critical thinking and problem solving to achieve the best possible patient outcomes.

About Blended Learning

Blended learning combines online learning with in-person skill sessions conducted by a Red Cross-certified instructor. Participants in blended learning courses acquire the same knowledge and skills as those in traditional classroom training courses. Blended learning courses allow participants to access and review foundational information for the duration of the certification.

Online content must be fully completed prior to an in-person skills session. If the online content is not completed before the in-person skill session, participants will not be allowed to participate and will not receive a refund.
