Our Fitness program offers dozens of class formats and session times throughout the week, all free for current FSU students and Campus Recreation members.

class Descriptions

Learn more about each of our group fitness class formats.

  • Cardio Classes

This exciting class spends half the time on the step for a cardio sweat session and the other half toning and firming with weights, cables, mats, balls, and your body weight. You’ll be working in intervals on your cardiovascular endurance and improving strength in all major muscle groups.

  • Mind/Body Classes

Barre is a unique total body workout utilizing the Ballet Barre, light dumbbells, and ballet-inspired movements to perform small isometric exercises that strengthen and lengthen your muscles. High reps and various barre/position combinations will have you burning at the barre! You’ll enjoy a deep stretch session at the end of each class.

Pilates engages the mind and conditions the body with a blend of strength and flexibility. With a focus on muscle balance, Pilates helps to improve posture and range of motion by strengthening weaker muscle groups and stretching the over-worked muscles. Detailed instruction on alignment will be given in this class, and supplementary equipment may be introduced.

Connect the mind, body, and breath through a balanced blend of gentle movement and continuous flow. Flow Yoga incorporates smooth transitions, mindful breathing, and intentional holds to build strength, release tension, and promote relaxation. All levels are welcome to enjoy a practice that leaves you feeling refreshed and restored.

Power Yoga provides an invigorating full-body flow where you’ll explore different postures and fundamental principles of Vinyasa Yoga. The class flows to an inspiring playlist to motivate you throughout your practice and allow you to connect with your breath and body. We will target every muscle at a level comfortable for beginners and longtime yogis alike.

Yoga means union of body, mind, and spirit. It is an ancient system of asana (yoga postures) which was developed to create the right mind, breathing, postures, movement, and relaxation. Vinyasa Yoga is an active style of yoga where participants learn breathing techniques that guide them through a variety of postures. The goal is to align the breath with the mind and body.

Yoga Sculpt is a fusion of Pilates and Yoga that involves moving through Yoga poses while incorparating Pilates technique. Intended for more intermediate to advanced participants, expect to build muscle strength and endurance while advancing breathwork skills in a fun and challenging way.

  • Cycling Classes

This 45-minute or 60-minute spin class takes participants for a ride on a stationary bike as the instructor leads them up hills and through straight aways, pushing themselves past their boundaries and limits. Individuals set their own intensity while enjoying the energy of a group workout.

  • Dance Classes

Need cardio? Love to dance? Get ready to shake and sweat. No rhythm required! Add fun to your fitness by fusing the latest hip-hop, dance, and Latin music with easy-to-follow and easy-to-spice-up choreography.

Hip-Hop Fitness is a vibrant and expressive form of dance, combining freestyle movements and upbeat music. Expect to get your heart-rate up and have some fun with easy-to-follow steps open to all levels of dance experience.

Zumba is a Latin-inspired dance workout that will get your heart rate up in a fun way. Combining cardio and endurance, this high-energy class will leave you feeling energized and ready to tackle the rest of your day.

  • Strength Classes

Prepare to feel the core burn! This ab targeted workout is designed to strengthen and tone abdominal muscles. A shorter class combined with a variety of movements that help you feel strong, improve stability, and leave you feeling like you’ve worked hard.

A spicy workout designed to strengthen and tone the legs through controlled movements through full range of motion. Expect to target the quads, glutes and hamstrings as you move through a fun sequence designed to help improve muscle tone, stability and control.

HIIT 45 is a high-intensity interval training workout that focuses on periods of work followed by rest intervals. This cardio style class encourages you to work hard while having fun and being motivated by the people around you.

Whether you’re looking for an introduction to weights or to spice up your current routine, Total Body Sculpt is for you! This hour-long workout concentrates on all major muscle groups using body weight, steps, body bars, cables, and medium to heavy dumbbells to provide varying resistance. We promise a total body workout!

Fitness 2 You

Campus Recreation is pleased to offer Fitness 2 You services to the campus community. We know it can sometimes be difficult to make time to workout at the Leach or FMC, so let us bring our group fitness instructors to you! We will come to your on-campus location and provide your group or team a fun-filled fitness class. Choose from our Cardio Dance, Kickboxing, or Yoga formats.

Small classes for 5 to 20 people are $79 for student organizations and $99 for University departments. Large classes for up to 50 participants are $119 for student organizations and $139 for University departments.

Please fill out the Fitness 2 You form if you have interest in FSU Campus Rec bringing ‘Fitness 2 You’! Requests must be submitted at least 2 weeks in advance.

Fitness 4 You

Ever wanted a private fitness class at the Leach or FMC to workout with just your closest friends? Then let us provide ‘Fitness 4 You’. Bring your friends to the Leach Center for a Spin 45 class in our Spinning Studio. We’ll provide your group/team a fun-filled fitness class.

Private Spin 45 classes are $129 per session, minimum 10 participants, maximum 20.

Please fill out the Fitness 4 You form if you’re interested in FSU Campus Rec providing ‘Fitness 4 You’! Requests must be submitted at least 2 weeks in advance.

GFIT: Group Fitness Instructor Training

In 6 weeks, you can learn the skills needed to teach a variety of group fitness class formats to include Step, Kickboxing, Pilates, Barre and Strength! After completing the GFIT prep course, you’ll be ready to take your national certification exam and audition for a position on our team. Sessions provide theoretical and practical training in preparation for taking a national certification exam. We do not offer an official certification.

The next GFIT course will be offered during the Spring 2027 semester.
