Sport Club Organization Categories
Within the FSU Sport Club Program are three categories for our student organizations.
At the most involved level are Sport Club Council Member Organizations. Sport Club Council Member Organizations often seek to represent FSU in competition, practice regularly, participate in an organized league, and host or travel to face other collegiate clubs in competition. Sport Club Council Member Organizations have additional training and reporting requirements with the Sport Club Program to assist the University with providing support and guidance to the club’s operations. Sport Club Council Member Organizations have access to the Sport Club Council’s annual fund allocation processes and special access other Campus Recreation & University resources.
At the most basic level are Sport Club Program Affiliates. All organizations that are new to the Sport Club Program start in this category. Clubs in this category are typically more recreational, participate in their activity at their leisure, and do not seek to represent FSU as a team in collegiate club competition. Sport Club Program Affiliates report member information on a regular basis to Campus Recreation, but otherwise operate following general Registered Student Organization processes. The Sport Club Program provides additional promotional avenues for the club and serves the first University resource for affiliate organizations to assist with any club operational issues.
In the middle are Sport Club Council Probationary Members, these are current Sport Club Council Program Affiliates who have chosen to seek membership in the Sport Club Council. During their probationary period (typically one year), these groups attempt to complete all the requirements of Sport Club Council Member Organizations to gain full membership for subsequent years.
Forming a New Sport Club
Any student interested in forming a new club is encouraged to meet with the Coordinator of Sport Clubs as the first step in the process. Our staff will assist any student with navigating some of the University and Program procedures required to start a new organization. We’re happy to help first!
Simply, call 850-644-7902, stop by the Sport Club Office at the Main Campus Fields during normal business hours, or email us to schedule a time to meet.
